I like to tell people I have been a journalist since I popped out of the womb. I had a fascination with books, reading, writing, and telling stories to my school classmates.
I used to fill up composition notebooks with stories I wrote out of my imagination... my mom LITERALLY had to buy me new ones every month!
I loved to use my imagination, and honestly never knew that there was a career to not only tell my stories, but to tell others' too.
I stepped into the journalism world at fifteen, taking an opportunity in the high school program at WRAL news station in Raleigh, North Carolina. I went every Tuesday and Thursday to learn how to interview, edit, shoot video, and build connections with successful journalists.
Fast forward past N.C. State Football's creative video internship where I learned to shoot video, and my time at NC State Hockey as social media manager, I landed my DREAM internship at WRAL my senior year of college, which is where I am currently employed.
I want to give a voice to the voiceless, the ones who don't consume our every day media, and make an impact on people's lives. My hope as a journalist is to continue doing the work, have boots on the ground, and make a difference in the community I am in.
I work day in and day out in the newsroom with prestigious journalists, reporters, and news/sports directors. Some of my mentors include:
Chris Lea: WRAL Sports Anchor
Chris Lovingood: WRAL News Anchor
Gerald Owens: WRAL News Anchor
Kelly Riner: WRAL Producer
Martha Jennings: WRAL Managing Editor
Jason Jennings: WRAL Sports Director
I have learned so much, and now I am ready to take my knowledge into the real world and live out my dream of being a journalist.
